Weight and Balance — practice questions
6% of the exam ≈4 real questions 4 free questions here
Six percent of the General weighting, and almost all of it arithmetic: moments, loaded CG, equipment changes, percent of MAC, ballast, plus the terms (datum, arm, tare, basic empty weight) and the adverse-loading check.
Where people lose points
- CG is total moment divided by total weight. Averaging the arms ignores how much each item weighs.
- A negative arm means forward of the datum; removing weight behind the CG moves the CG forward.
- Tare (chocks, blocks, a leveling jack on the scale) is subtracted from the scale reading.
- Minimum fuel for an adverse-loading check is METO horsepower ÷ 2, in pounds.
- Basic empty weight includes full engine oil; licensed empty weight includes only residual oil.
