Regulations, Forms and Records — practice questions
13% of the exam ≈8 real questions 8 free questions here
Thirteen percent of the weighting and the subject where outdated prep hurts most. Mechanic eligibility and privileges (14 CFR part 65, amended July 2025), record entries under 43.9 and 43.11, Form 337, the 100-hour and annual rules, airworthiness directives, and approved versus acceptable data.
Where people lose points
- A mechanic's privileges exclude major repairs and major alterations of propellers, and ANY repair or alteration of instruments.
- An A&P approves return to service after maintenance but NOT after a major repair or alteration; that takes an inspection authorization or a repair station.
- A 43.9 signature approves only the work performed; a 43.11 inspection entry is what declares the aircraft airworthy.
- The 100-hour limit may be overflown by up to 10 hours en route, and the excess counts against the next 100.
- Form 337 copies go to the owner and to the FAA Aircraft Registration Branch in Oklahoma City within 48 hours.

What is the legal status of an airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to an aircraft?
Why: 14 CFR 39.7: anyone who operates a product that does not meet the requirements of an applicable airworthiness directive is in violation. ADs are regulations, unlike service bulletins, which are not mandatory for most Part 91 operators unless an AD requires them.
